President Mahinda Rajapksa said the government always looks after and protects all communities, since it is the prime duty of his people friendly government.
The President was addressing an election rally in support of candidates for the Eastern Provincial Council election at the Weber stadium in Batticaloa.
The President emphasized that his government stands as a friendly government of all communities and ethnicities.
Similarly, the people in the country can place their trust in the government.
The President added that the government has launched a number of mega scale development projects throughout the country. The Eastern Province is no exception .The massive development drive carried out in the Eastern Province is there for all to see.
As a result of the humanitarian mission of the government, all communities are living in harmony in a friendly atmosphere.
The President stressed that certain narrow minded politicians are trying to damage this ethnic harmony merely for achieving political gain. “These parties are leveling false and baseless allegations against the government and the other communities. Therefore, the wise people in the country should not fall prey to such cowardly ploys and fabricated allegations.
All communities are duty bound to safeguard ethnic harmony and peaceful co - existence, “the President noted. “Every citizen in the country is today free to engage in their own activities without any fear.
"All can go to their respective religious places without the fear of death. Children can go to school without any hindrance. People can engage in day to day activities free of tension,” the President said. “An era where everyone can live peacefully has been created by the government.
"The government protects every Temple, Kovil, Mosque, Church or any other place of worship,” the President stressed.
Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (3) launched the project to construct a domestic airport in Batticaloa.
The President laid the foundation stone Monday for the construction of the passenger terminal building and runway of the Batticaloa airport.
The cost for the construction of 1700- meter long tarmac, access and flight landing areas has been estimated at Rs.800 million.
Under the domestic airport projects, the Government plans to set up eight domestic airports in the country in Koggala, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Sigiriya, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Ampara, and Palaviya.
